This is mostly a whole lot of nothing since there is no input or player movement at the moment, but it demonstrates the core effect that motivated this project. The player exists in his own dimension (happy and colorful), unaffected by dreary/dangerous surroundings (rendered in grayscale). Characters will have a dual-nature, where they maybe start as evil/scary/dangerous in the dark region, but become good/friendly/benign when hit by the light. If they leave the light region they will be subject to the perils of the dark region (pretty much certain death).
